Welcome to the LOSRA Website

As with any other local neighbourhood, the policies and actions which affect the character and future of Lower Sunbury are generally framed and implemented by a combination of local and national government, along with the vested interests and market forces which operate within those frameworks. Lower Sunbury is by no means unique in being under threat from a creaking infrastructure brought about by rapid urban development, the growth of traffic, and other pressures affecting the quality of life and the character of the area.

Working with the local authorities, we see it as the responsibility of residents’ and amenity groups such as LOSRA to address the underlying issues which fundamentally affect their members’ lives, as well as the minutiae of everyday life with which such groups are often concerned.

Spelthorne Youth Awards 2021

The following notice has been issued by the Council and we are happy to reproduce it here:

Do you know a special young person aged between 5 and 19 years living or receiving education within Spelthorne who deserves recognition? If so, you may wish to nominate them for a Spelthorne Youth Award!

As we begin to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, there has never been a more appropriate time to support and celebrate our young people.

We are looking for nominations in the following categories:

  • outstanding academic achievement
  • personal achievement
  • community spirit
  • triumph over adversity
  • sports achievement
  • unselfishness, kindness & bravery
  • arts achievement (including performing arts)

Anyone can nominate a young person for an award and there is no limit to how many you can nominate. A selection from each category will be invited to a special awards ceremony and presented with a certificate from the Mayor of Spelthorne.

A star award is presented to the young person deemed most worthy by a panel of judges, this consists of a glass trophy and cheque for £50.

The deadline for nominations this year is Friday 28 May, with the awards evening taking place in July. To submit a nomination, please visit www.spelthorne.gov.uk/youthawards

Postal Votes Delay

Due to engineering problems, there has been a delay with the posting of postal vote forms.

The postal votes for the forthcoming Police and Crime Commissioner, Surrey County Council and the Staines South By-Election were due to be posted to postal voters today, however the printers the Council appointed have had engineering problems which has meant that there has been a delay.

This is beyond the Council's control and the postal votes will now be posted on Monday.

A number of enquiries have been made regarding a licensing application for the Hazelwood Centre which runs the London Irish site.

Dog walkers, in particular, will have seen the notices posted around the Hazelwood pitches.

The Association has been in touch with the Centre and we are advised that London Irish.has had to reapply for its premises licence as a result of a change in the legal entity which runs the site. The current entity Hazelwood Community Company which is set up as a not for profit organisation replaces the old Hazelwood Centre LLP. This change necessitated a new licence application, which is based on exactly the same terms as the one which expired at the time of the change.

It should be noted that opening times are identical to those approved under the previous licence.
