Community Infrastructure Levy - Public Consultation

Rate this item
(8 votes)

The period for consulting on the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) Preliminary Draft Charging Schedule which started on 2 July has now concluded (see: http://www.spelthorne.gov.uk/article/3014/Consultations-and-representations) and LOSRA has made the following submission.

We are very grateful to those local residents who spared a few minutes of their time to assist in our Thames foot/cycle bridge survey. The very positive results have been attached to our submission.

Of course everyone in the survey was in favour of a bridge - in theory. (Hands up anybody not in favour of motherhood and apple pie).

However, I suspect that there would be a lot less enthusiasm if the bridge was going to affect adversely the peace and quiet and privacy in the respondents' area. Greatly increased disturbance would be inevitable, nearly all day, especially in summer.

A pointless survey, therefore, I'm afraid.

I did not see this item earlier or I would have commented then.
LOWER SUNBURY is essentially a Riverside community, so if LoSRA wishes to be able to claim that it does in fact represent the residents of LOWER SUNBURY - as opposed to those who are really more up towards the Kempton area - it must bear in mind that support for any sort of bridge over the Thames in this locality comes principally from those who don't actually live by it.
The people who actually live by the river and know what they are talking about - ie LOWER SUNBURY residents - are adamantly against any such idea as they realise the damage it would do.
In particular I would remind you that the residents of Parke Road (the nearest road to the Weir) would be the first to suffer from any idea to open up the Weir and Wheatley's Ait as a public footpath.
These Parke Road residents alone currently include FIVE present and past LoSRA committee members and I as one of them, after all the good work LoSRA has done in the past, would not wish to find myself in the position of having to declare that LoSRA no longer represents the interests of actual LOWER SUNBURY residents.

I would add that in your supposed "consultation" I for one was not consulted and I do not know of any of my neighbours who were - but then we are the ones who would actually be affected by any such bridge in our locality.
AAlso I would mention that with the great widths of the foot/cycle paths on the new Walton Bridge, there is no longer any need for any further such amenity.
