Invitation by London Irish to View Proposed 50 Seater Stand in Situ

Readers will remember the article published on this website concerning an application by the London Irish Amateur RFC to install a 50 seater stand at their Hazelwood Grounds (See entry for 30th September). Following objections received by the local planning authority, Mr Richard Ryan (LIARFC) has now written to our Chairman; and the following self-explanatory extract from his email is posted here for the attention of any resident who wishes to accept the invitation described:

"We have become very aware of the level of distrust / misinformation that has built up locally over our planning application for the 50 seater stand. We have taken up an offer to have the stand for a trial period so that people can come and see for themselves what we are trying to achieve. We are hopeful that once people realise the insignificance of its size then some of their fear people are feeling may be alleviated.

"I have  written to the planning office to advise him and awaiting his reply. We are aware we do not have planning permission for the stand so hence the trial period. We are also aware that should the Council decline our application the trial period will have to be cut short."

    Isn't a 50 seat stand...tiny? Like 7.5m x 2.5m?

Do we know who gave the offerfor London Irish to have a trial stand? (Was it sanctioned by residents or is this a business offer?) Could I put up a trial extension without planning permission?

One of the most infuriating aspects of LI's behaviour in all this is their continuing refusal to even acknowledge the existence of the specific condition in the original agreement that *NO* stand could ever be built.

Given that this latest statement confirms their intention to bash ahead willy-nilly, can anyone clarify what legal redress Residents have in terms of the breach of that condition?

Also, I thought the whole point of planning permission was that you couldn't do anything until you had it - not even "trials". Something else LI seem to be blatantly ignoring.

I think it will be an absolute disgrace if Spelthorne allows this stand to be installed whilst awaiting their planning decision!

To anyone from LI who may be reading this, you fail to understand that many residents of your 'spiritual home' do not like your arrogance and contempt of the locals. In my 30 years in Sunbury, LI have:
    1) attempted to build a stadium at The Avenue site (we used to be given free tickets to the last match of the season for being good neighbours but this suddenly stopped when they didn't get planing permission).
    2) stated that if they were allowed to build a leisure centre, they wouldn't need to move or build on The Avenue site.
    3) to much disgust, sold the land to a developer after planning permission was allowed for nearly 200 housing units.
    4) moved to Hazelwood and agreed not to build any temporary or permanent structures.
    5) now submitted planning to a temporary stand.

What lies will we be told next? You won't want to build a stadium at Hazelwood?

Just to add to my previous comment; 'never mind' that LI has conveniently forgotten the condition imposed during the 2011 Public Enquiry that no movable structure for the use of spectator accommodation shall be erected on the land to protect the amenity of visitors to the nearby cemetery and the living conditions of the nearby residents, therefor actually increasing my distrust of the LI......Could that be why Spelthorne has still not made their decision, to see whether the LI can 'sweeten us up'.

This is a nonsense, a 50 seater stand is a 50 seater stand. The impact remains the same regardless of it's shape or size as do the objections!
