A number of public drop-in events, including Sunbury on 15th March, are being held by the River Thames Scheme to allow residents to have their say and view options for the weirs. Experts will also be at hand to answer questions.

The weir flows form a distraction from a later flawed stage. I am in stage 2 beyond worried knowing as a rower on the Walton reach that adding further capacity to the existing Desborough Cut coupled with these necessary weir improvements would cause more flooding on the Sunbury-Hampton reach (aka Molesey reach) as the gradients of the river decreases. Also the upper Kingston reach at Thames Ditton and Ravens Ait. Until now this problem has been avoided by these being long straight reaches, a legacy of dredging and the limited flow the cut can take enabling a pile up at the top of the Walton reach which its banks and low parts of islands can take. Widen the 1k Cut which has already added at least 1/3 to the flow and perhaps 1/12 to the capacity of that reach and the EA will flood lands below. That part of the hastily drawn plans needs a complete rethink.
