Page Engineering Works, Green Street - Site Acquired for Development

Rate this item
(7 votes)

Many residents will already be aware that the brownfield site of Page Engineering in Green Street at the junction with Forge Lane is ripe for re-development. The light engineering firm finally closed in October 2014 and, whilst the loss of a long standing local employer is to be regretted, it was inevitable that the land would attract the highest price if sold for residential development.

LOSRA was made aware of the interest shown by Fairview New Homes last month but only last week was it confirmed that the Company had now acquired the land. We have been assured by FNH that full consultation will take place with local residents during the preparation of plans and we have agreed to publish all relevant material and updates on this website.

Like most historical villages running along the Thames upstream of Hampton Court, Sunbury-on-Thames has retained inpart patches of its historical architecture. It is certainly not unique in retaining a period footprint and like other towns has a somewhat mixed feel. North of Thames Street is predominately post-war 1950s housing stock that 'Anonymous' would snootily refer to as aesthetically 'modest'. This was a mix of family sized homes & apartment blocks. I feel we should not turn our backs on providing schemes with smaller units just because of the snobbish nimbyism & prejudice as epitomised by 'Anonymous'.

Which conservation area would that be then? I think as far as Spelthorne BC goes that word has gone out of the window.

Quite frankly if you aren't yet receiving a good income, you should not seek to live next to a conservation area on two sides and one notable for homes with several bedrooms and noble proportions. The whole of the rest of Middlesex north of the m3 and south of the m40 a sea of small and modest homes with a few exceptions primarily Staines, Ashford and Uxbridge. You cannot trounce established larger family home character and I'd quite like one if I ever make it.

My map reading skills are just fine Bob, I used to work on an industrial unit on International Way 20 yrs ago, kind of know its a very short walk from the shopping precinct(tops 5 mins).

International way is not Sunbury X. You need a map

Did you also miss the flats in the Avenue development?

We need houses for families not flats that just exist for buy to let parasites

I asked where the private developments were situated in Lower Sunbury, you've listed the predominately social/affordable scheme(s) in Sunbury Cross. Thank-you for answering my question so cogently.
Will councillors on Spelthorne Planning Committee start taking notice of the pitifully low number of smaller units they pass(if at all) on these gated schemes soon?
Given they have one eye on appeasing the 'demands' of their local electorate I doubt we'll ever see a sea-change any time soon.

Huge estate near international way. Big estate near travelodge at kempton. Soon to be redeveloped Chubb Chubb building. All flats.

Bob, please point me in the direction of the swathe of flats you allude to in your posting. I was under the impression that the majority of the most recent developments undertaken in Lower Sunbury in the past 2/3 years were almost exclusively gated terraced townhouses.
I guess this isn't helped when developers seeking to maximise capital return on a plot play along with the narrative espoused by LOSRA promoting schemes with the 'maximum number of family houses' (EA site).
    plus ca change!

Strangely, although we only received a letter re: planning application for the billboards they have been in situe for about a week or more - I hope that this isn't a glimpse of what is to come. Are they above the planning law ?

Flats are ten a penny. Need houses and gardens
