It is indeed sad that the Regatta has had to move. It is perhaps a story of reaching too far by including all the entertainments etc. I used to go with a picnic basket. There was no bar or bouncy castles. Adding toilets was a good idea and I believe the bar came along to help pay for the bridge which needs putting in each time for safety reasons. And so it grew. Perhaps scaling it back again would be the answer?
I already volunteer for other things and have no idea how much time the Regatta organisation would take and how much has to be raised, even for the basics, but it does sound like something which would take a lot of time. I would be willing to have a chat with someone (John?) because really, it was such a wonderful addition to Sunbury life, and should be preserved at Rivermead if possible.

I couldn’t believe the news about the cancellation of the Sunbury Regatta. I have been enjoying going for over 40
years. I will be happy to discuss the situation that’s aim is to find a solution to hopefully continue this traditional event.

This is really sad. We need to keep the Sunbury Amateur Regatta in Sunbury - and bring back the associated local fair and fireworks. Other parts of the borough have special days of celebration, so why should we lose them in Sunbury? Moreover Desborough Sailing Club is in a remote part of Shepperton. It's some distance from bus and train routes, so not accessible from Sunbury without a car.
