Urgent Petition To Protect Sunbury's Green Belt

Rate this item
(0 votes)

The most important stage in our new Spelthorne Local Plan - the Examination in Public run by the Planning Inspectorate - has just completed the first week of a total of three. Having a proper approved Local Plan will give the best protection possible to Green Belt in our Borough.

However, at an Extraordinary Council Meeting on 6 June, some local councillors are going to try and stop the Examination from continuing.

The financial cost to all Spelthorne Council Tax payers, and the risk to our Green Belt from not having a Local Plan, will be huge.

Please click here to sign this petition to help stop the delay!

This petition fails to mention that the draft local plan, as it stands, WILL release 15 Green Belt sites across the whole of Spelthorne (24.8ha = 46 football fields of Green Belt) and that, by signing it, residents are actually pushing FOR release of Green Belt release in the Local Plan. including of 6 sites in Sunbury and Shepperton namely:

    1. HS1/002 Land at Croysdale Avenue/Hazelwood Drive, Sunbury (1.68 ha)
    2. HS1/009 Bugle Nurseries, 171 Upper Halliford Road, Shepperton (2.28 ha)
    3. HS1/012 Land East of Upper Halliford Road, Nursery Road, Sunbury (1.61 ha)
    4. HS1/012b Land East of Upper Halliford Road (site B) (2.34 ha)
    5. HS2/004 Land South of Nursery Road, Sunbury (0.66 ha)
    6. LS1/024 Land at Staines Road West and Cedar Way, Sunbury (1.63 ha)

For residents who don't want ANY Green belt released, there is a petition calling on the Council not to release ANY Green Belt in its Local Plan: https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/save-our-green-belt-in-spelthorne

Please don’t ruin what is special about Sunbury by destroying the Green Belt. As new residents, we urge you not to take for granted what is special about this area. Develop brownfield sites first and protect green belt.
