The East side of Manor Lane where I live has a 20mph limit that is almost completely ignored by rat-runners who use it as a cut through. Close to Chennestone Primary School, the road is narrow, winding and the school entrance is often occluded by parked vehicles. Given this context, the lack of physical traffic calming measures renders the speed limit totally ineffective and there is a clear and present danger to pedestrians, particularly children. I estimate that some vehicles must be hitting 40-50 mph on occasions, and wonder whether the responsible authorities are just waiting for a serious accident to happen before they spend a relatively small sum putting the necessary measures in place; sadly, it wouldn’t be the first time.

I agree that the 20mph zone should start higher up Green Street which will make crossing the road to access the shops and restaurants a bit safer. There should be clearer and repeated signage on the roads as there is in every adjacent borough. This doesn't ensure compliance but for most drivers regular reminders has a calming effect.
Bearing in mind the current petition to make crossing the Avenue safer for children going to school, the 20mph zone should start well before Avenue Parade and be accompanied by road cushions to slow vehicles down before they reach the Parade.
There should be more obvious 30mph limit signage to slow traffic at the top of the Avenue. I was overtaken recently by a 4x4 driving down the Avenue despite the fact that I was driving at 30mph

Talking of speed limits I think there should be reduce from 40mph to 30mph along Charlton Lane where the ECO PARK recycling entry and to the Sunbury Golf Centre. There has been too many accidents of vehicles running into the back of others.

I think the 20mph in the streets indicated is fine - can it be extended from Forge lane etc to the end of the parade of shops on Green Street as there is a need for a lower speed limit due to the amount of cars parking & exiting the layby by the shops is hazardous

    Thank you

I have never understood why the current 20 mph limit was not extended up the bottom of the Avenue to include Avenue Parade. Cars are regularly reversing out of the parking spaces there and some cars race down to the junction with Thames Street at a completely inappropriate speed, making it hazardous.

concerning Lower Hampton Road, 40mph starts at the Cricket Club where there there is an almost "hidden" entrance and an exit just when cars speed up. The Club hosts a childrens play group each week day morning, and I have my concerns about them. Carrying on along Lower Hampton/Sunbury road, one passes houses and parked cars and more "hidden" gates to large properties, including the infamous double bend which has apparently claimed several lives from car crashes. Once the residential part ends, we now have 30mph signs,. Have these perhaps been put in the wrong way round?

This is all very laudable but nothing is done to enforce the current 20mph zone in Thames Street where cars and lorries routinely break the speed limit making it a hazardous experience trying to cross the road

We are not aware about the origin of the proposals but presume they resulted from representations by concerned residents. Our local County councillor, Tim Evans should be aware of the history. Ed

The post and attachments explain what is proposed and where, but not why. Where can we find the council’s reasons for proposing this?
