Our local Police Inspector has written to the Chairman of LOSRA asking our membership to help track down Surrey's most wanted criminals. Her email is self-explanatory and the link should carry details within the next few days.

Can you help trace Surrey’s ‘Most Wanted’?

Most WantedThe top 15 most wanted people in Surrey are being warned to look over their shoulders as a new website aimed at helping track down serious offenders in the region is launched today.

The public can now view the county’s ‘Most Wanted’ online and help police locate those who may have gone to ground and bring them to justice.

The Rogues Gallery include those sought in connection with offences such as attempted murder, serious assault, drug importation, ATM fraud and burglary.

Surrey Police has teamed up with independent charity Crimestoppers which will feature them on its website, allowing the public to look at pictures and E-fits and view CCTV footage of people currently wanted across the county.

They can be viewed by visiting http://crimestoppers-uk.org/surrey and clicking on Most Wanted. Crimestoppers allows people to give information about crime anonymously by telephone or via the Crimestoppers website.

The Surrey Most Wanted site aims to emulate the success of the national site which has resulted in the arrest of people for offences ranging from murder, rape and drug smuggling to robbery and assault.

Tim Prideaux, Chairman of Surrey Crimestoppers, commented: “The Crimestoppers Most Wanted website has historically been catching a criminal every other day. We are delighted that the Most Wanted website is now going to feature criminals wanted in Surrey.

“The site offers the public another opportunity to take a stand against crime. It not only helps locate criminals who have ‘gone to ground’ but also identifies people previously unknown to the police.

“The concept is very simple: If you recognise any of the individuals featured on the website, you can pass your information on to Crimestoppers anonymously, either online or by calling 0800 555 111. Simple but extremely effective, Most Wanted is going to be an invaluable tool to bring criminals to justice in Surrey.”

Crimestoppers is not a part of the police, but information given anonymously by the public to Crimestoppers has been vital in solving crimes that otherwise would have been difficult to resolve.

Assistant Chief Constable Jerry Kirkby said: “Most Wanted has already proved itself to be a powerful tool in helping to identify, locate and arrest offenders elsewhere and we hope it will be just as successful in Surrey.

“Some of these 15 people are wanted on suspicion of serious offences such as attempted murder and we need to speak to them immediately. I would urge any member of the public who recognises any individual from our Rogues Gallery or knows of their whereabouts to report it anonymously to Crimestoppers.

“I would warn those who think they can evade justice in Surrey that we will leave no stone unturned in tracing them and after today those featured in Most Wanted will have even more reason to be looking over their shoulder.

“The invaluable work of Crimestoppers and in particular the impact of Most Wanted, shows how important anonymous intelligence is in helping to solve crimes. Often members of the public hold crucial information that can bring serious offenders to justice, and Crimestoppers and Most Wanted give them a mechanism to share that information and allow us to act on it.”
