Many previous attendees will already have received this invitation from Joanne Jones and it has also been reported in the local press. In case you have missed it, her invitation is reproduced here:

Spelthorne Assembly, Friday 19th September, 9.30am - 1.30am, Kempton Park "I’m writing to invite you to this year’s Spelthorne Assembly.

"Popular elements from previous years are again being featured – including the “marketplace” with scores of stands and displays from a wide variety of organisations; Make It Happen – where one lucky community project goes home with £1,000 following a live vote on the day.

"New this year is a Community Contact Point where those with something to offer, or request, or simply publicise - can post their messages.

Speakers and workshops are being finalised.

"Early booking for delegates is advised; casual visitors do not need to book – just turn up. Looking forward to hearing from you – and please circulate this invitation to your colleagues and contacts.

Thank you.

Regards

Joanne"

Apologies for the delayed reply - only just spotted Kathy's question. The Assembly is held on a weekday because it's actually part of the "day job" for the members of the Local Strategic Partnership, for whom this is the annual conference and networking event. The "marketplace" element has grown immensely over the past couple of years and it was decided to throw open the doors to the general public as well, to visit the stands brought by partners ranging from the emergency services and NHS,voluntary, charity and community groups, business partners, schools, council services, leisure providers, amenity groups and so on.The Partnership is independent of Spelthorne Borough Council and Surrey County Council and sits outside of the council structure. My job involves organising the event - and makes up Spelthorne Council's contribution as a member of the LSP. Hope this clarifies. Spelweb.com has more about the LSP

Couldn't this kind of event be on a Saturday to enable more people to come?
