Football and Athletics Stadium Proposed on Walton Bank

Rate this item
(5 votes)

Stadium for WaltonThanks to a local resident who got in touch with LOSRA, we have become aware of plans by Elmbridge Borough Council to construct a massive sports complex on land adjacent to the Xcel Leisure Centre in Waterside Drive, Walton. The development will include a new football and athletics stadium incorporating spectator seating, changing facilities, function/club rooms, floodlighting, additional football and sports pitches. The design and access statement may be viewed by clicking here.

The Association welcomes any addition to sporting and leisure facilities but has every reason to be concerned about the scale and ambition of this particular proposal, most especially as the development would have very serious implications for the peace and tranquility of the public and residents in Lower Sunbury. Maybe the un-enlightened should do a cursory google search under Walton & Herham FC or Walton Casuals FC. Both have senior and junior teams running and offer opportunity to LOCAL people to particapate in competitive sport.

Ignorance is bliss as they say in the leafy confines of Lower Sunbury.

In response to Walton's post that Walton doesn't have a major sports team of any description or plan to hold any major sporting events, why waste money on a white elephant? Let's put the money to better use. With all stadiums there is a level of noise and more importantly light pollution which has a greater impact on surrounding areas.

Not sure anyone has noticed, but Walton does not have a major sports team of any description, nor does it have plan to hold any major sporting events, so not sure what the objection is to this?

If it is noise, then the noise coming from the pub gardens on the side of the thames is probably more of an issue.
